Departmental Overview

Berkeley's Department of Architecture emphasizes design, multidisciplinary collaboration, and experimentation. It has over 570 students, including 180 graduate students, with over 20 full-time faculty, 30 part-time faculty, and 5 staff members. More info at ced.berkeley.edu/arch.

This critical position supports multiple functions and works independently under the department manager and Chair, applying in-depth professional knowledge to curriculum management, analyzing problems, and presenting solutions.

Responsibilities

  1. Scheduling and Course Support (40%): Independently determine courses to be offered, schedule undergraduate and graduate courses, manage accommodations, adjust class sizes, resolve scheduling issues, assign courses, and ensure faculty access to necessary systems.
  2. Enrollment (30%): Manage enrollment functions, set limits, monitor levels, support instructors and students, manage waitlists, and oversee studio course enrollment processes.
  3. Communication (10%): Communicate schedules, deadlines, policies, and updates to instructors, students, and staff in consultation with the Chair/MSO.
  4. Chair/MSO/Admin Support (10%): Support administrative tasks such as coordinating meetings, managing calendars, handling inquiries, updating websites, and ensuring smooth daily operations.
  5. Events (5%): Support departmental events including studio space management, reviews, commencements, orientations, and other activities.
  6. Professional Development (5%): Maintain knowledge of curriculum planning and administrative support through participation in campus activities and trainings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/training
  • Ability to identify and analyze problems and trends
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills for conflicting situations
  • Multicultural competencies
  • Experience in scheduling and administration
  • Ability to learn new systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of university-specific applications
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign
  • Experience with Course Management System, Campus Solutions, Cal Central
  • Understanding of university policies and degree requirements

Salary & Benefits

The salary range is $65,000 to $78,000 annually, with full benefits. For details, visit UC Berkeley's Benefits website. The position is FLSA exempt, paid monthly, and eligible for full benefits.
