Summary of Position:

The Assistant Controller will oversee all accounting activities, including high-level accounting, managerial accounting, and finance, and direct the company's accounting operations such as payroll, accounts payable, and receivable. Responsibilities include supervising staff, providing strategic decisions, and proficiency in financial forecasts and reporting. Experience in project management, software migration, and identifying departmental inefficiencies is essential.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Internal:

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ensure proper controls and maintain a code of ethics in the accounting system.
  • Implement and deploy new accounting tools and systems.
  • Maintain documented policies and procedures; implement controls to minimize risks.
  • Advise executives and senior staff on fiscal matters and policies.
  • Recommend performance benchmarks.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide information for annual audits.
  • Provide management with timely financial reviews and oversee annual reviews.
  • Conduct financial analysis on investments, pricing, and contracts.
  • Support efficiency improvements through technology adoption.
  • Monitor cash flow and manage cash funds.
  • Ensure compliance with tax and reporting requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Budget:

  • Oversee financial reporting and enforce budget planning.
  • Produce annual budgets and forecasts; report on variances.
  • Stay updated on new accounting standards and implement changes.
  • Manage asset financing and cost studies.
  • Produce accurate variance reports and monitor KPIs.

Management:

  • Participate in hiring, review, and coaching staff.
  • Foster continuous learning and teamwork.
  • Oversee accounting department operations including payables, receivables, reconciliations, and payroll.
  • Identify training needs and oversee training programs.

Qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Assistant Controller Certifications: CMA, CFA, CFC; +Certified Treasury Professional a plus.
  • 5+ years experience with accounting software (Great Plains a plus).
  • 5+ years in an accounting management role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar.
  • Strong management, supervisory, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
