Description:

Culinary Artistas is seeking a dynamic Lead Educator to direct our youth culinary camps this summer. Founded on the belief that cooking connects us to our cultures and each other, we create engaging experiences that inspire young chefs. As Lead Educator, you'll be responsible for designing and implementing educational programming that integrates STEM, art, and culinary activities while managing daily operations and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for children ages 4-10.

San Francisco (Ghirardelli Square) OR East Bay (Albany & Piedmont) based on your preference

Employment Type:

Seasonal

Working Hours:

35hrs per week (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm, with optional weekend hours)

Duration:

You must be available for the entire summer, June 9th - August 22, 2025. We will assign you for a minimum of 8 weeks for SF camps or 4 weeks for East Bay camps.

  • Serve as primary liaison between Culinary Artistas, parents, and kids representing our values and mission in all interactions
  • Manage all parent communications including daily updates, concerns, and feedback
  • Gather and prepare materials for daily STEM activities
  • Lead welcome activities and morning circle time
  • Design and implement STEM projects
  • Manage transitions between activities
  • Coordinate with culinary staff on integrated programming
  • Lead camp rules and expectations discussions


Staff Management & Delegation

  • Directly supervise and mentor Assistant Educator and Counselors in Training (CITs) ages 12-16
  • Assign staff positions during activities and transitions
  • Monitor staff performance and provide feedback
  • Maintain staff schedules including break rotations
  • Ensure proper staff-to-camper ratios during all activities


Safety & Operations

  • Maintain facility security (door locking procedures)
  • Oversee proper handwashing and hygiene protocols
  • Monitor safety during activities and transitions
  • Coordinate with staff on safety procedures
  • Handle parent communications and concerns
  • Morning prep and material gathering (before 8:50am)
  • Managing drop off procedures (8:50-9:30am)
  • Leading circle time and introductions (9:30-9:50am)
  • Coordinating team assignments (9:50-10:00am)
  • Leading STEM activities (11:30-12:45pm)
  • Managing pickup procedures (2:45-3:00pm)
  • Facilitate transitions between all activities

Skills + Experience Required

  • 3+ years experience teaching elementary-age children
  • Experience developing and implementing STEM curriculum
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Previous experience supervising staff or volunteers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with behavior management techniques
  • Must complete Live Scan background check (reimbursed)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willing to obtain)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, or related field
  • Previous summer camp or enrichment program experience
  • Background in STEM education or hands-on learning
  • Experience with culinary education programs
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and transitions
  • A skilled educator with strong leadership abilities
  • Comfortable being the public face of an organization
  • Excellent at communicating with children and families
  • Adept at handling sensitive conversations with grace
  • Experienced in managing multiple staff members, including teens
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Calm and efficient in a fast-paced environment
  • Passionate about integrated learning experiences
  • Committed to creating an inclusive environment
  • Comfortable in a kitchen environment
  • Have physical stamina for active supervision throughout the day
  • Flexible to adjust programming based on group dynamics

Pay

Starting at $25-$28 per hour, depending on role and experience.
