Overview

The Recovery Housing program is a two-year transitional housing program for adults who have completed residential drug treatment. The goal of the program is to support participants' transition from residential drug treatment to permanent housing and self-sufficiency. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for daily repairs, maintenance, unit turnover, occupant relations, and ensuring the facility is a safe, clean, and supportive environment for participants. This position requires excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to foster a positive living space that supports recovery.

Please note that the role is not set to begin until June 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

General Maintenance

  • Conduct routine inspections of the property, including buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues with lighting, heating, cooling, and appliances.
  • Ensure walkways, hallways, and common areas are hazard-free and in good repair.
  • Lead all repairs to the facility and coordinate with subcontractors and janitorial staff.
  • Oversee room turnover, including pre-move-in and move-out inspections, ensuring units are in “like new” condition.
  • Maintain the facility's physical infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conduct safety inspections, and develop emergency response plans.
  • Support vendors and contractors as needed.

Cleaning and Upkeep

  • Maintain cleanliness of common areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces.
  • Assist with deep cleaning tasks like window washing, floor buffing, and power washing.
  • Handle trash removal and recycling procedures.
  • Perform seasonal maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect living and common areas regularly to ensure policy compliance.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure the facility meets all safety and health regulations.
  • Identify and report safety hazards.
  • Maintain fire safety equipment.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.

Collaboration, Communication, Administrative

  • Work collaboratively with staff to meet occupants' needs.
  • Respect occupants' confidentiality and dignity.
  • Communicate significant maintenance issues to outside contractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of property transactions, occupant info, and maintenance logs.
  • Assist in preparing reports for leadership.
  • Track repairs, room turnovers, and projects to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Be available after-hours and on weekends for emergencies.

Education and Experience

  • At least two years of facility maintenance experience, preferably in a shelter or recovery environment.
  • OSHA Safety Certification (within first 90 days).
  • HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing Certifications (preferred).
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CA Driver's License.
  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred).
  • First Aid and CPR certification (within first 7 days).
  • TB clearance as required.

  • Ability to handle sensitive issues professionally.
  • Knowledge of maintenance procedures.
  • Experience as a handyman or in similar roles.
  • Basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills.
  • Problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Respectful interaction with vulnerable populations.
  • Adaptability to changing needs.

  • Modern office equipment and relevant software.
