Maintenance I - Affordable Housing - San Francisco

Summary:

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for ensuring the effective maintenance, operation, and safety of the facility. This includes tasks such as plumbing, electrical work, painting, minor carpentry, and equipment repairs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Use basic hand and power tools, such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers, wrenches, saber saws, and hand drills, along with basic electrical inspection and testing equipment.
  2. Assist in performing minor electrical repairs to building systems.
  3. Paint interior and exterior walls, doors, ceilings, beams, fences, etc., and refinish furniture as needed.
  4. Repair, move, assemble, install, and set up heavy equipment and furniture, including picture frames.
  5. Assist with plumbing repairs to building systems.
  6. Assist in minor carpentry work.
  7. Maintain and repair facility equipment, including laundry, food service, and nursing equipment.
  8. Perform routine maintenance and keep log books as required.
  9. Observe facility conditions and report issues to management.
  10. Demonstrate cooperative behavior with staff, colleagues, and supervisors.
  11. Participate in training as assigned.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Mechanical aptitude; ability to learn basic trade skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships.
  • Ability to read diagrams and operating/maintenance instructions.

Education and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trade or vocational training preferred.
  • Must pass a physical exam with TB screen prior to employment.
  • Employment contingent upon fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Perform strenuous labor, stand, walk, sit, and handle tools regularly.
  • Work in various weather conditions and work in awkward or cramped positions.
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 35 pounds.
  • Visual abilities include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Must cope with mental and emotional stress and work with diverse populations, including the elderly and disabled.
