POSITION SUMMARY

The Bay Area Discovery Museum seeks a Maintenance Specialist to support our Facilities and Exhibits team. This role is responsible for the day-to-day preservation of the cleanliness and inviting appearance of the museum facilities. It also includes setting up and taking down events and meeting productions.

This position will work onsite on our campus in Sausalito, CA. It is a maintenance role, sometimes custodial-heavy, requiring extended periods of standing, reaching, and lifting (up to 50 pounds). Duties may be spread throughout our 7.5-acre campus, so candidates must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors on different types of terrain. Candidates will be required to abide by and enforce our health and safety measures.

The pay rate for this non-exempt role is $23.79/hour. This is a progressive role; upon successful completion of at least 90 days, it will be considered for promotion to Facilities Technician with an incremental pay increase.

This position is full-time, depending on the candidate's availability. The schedule will be determined but will include one weekend day.

*Bilingual in Spanish/English pay rate is $24.79/hour.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Monitor and maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the museum campus, including custodial duties as necessary.
  2. Assist with program, event, and festival production, including set-up and teardown.
  3. Ensure a safe environment for visitors, staff, and volunteers.
  4. Perform basic maintenance and repair of all buildings and grounds.
  5. Utilize the Facilities Help ticket system for all fabrication, repair, and event requests. Provide immediate response to site issues and requests.
  6. Participate in shop maintenance tasks to ensure safety, serviceability, and proper use of tools and equipment.
  7. Maintain flexibility in schedule to support special events and cover staff vacation and sick time.

Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Reliable and predictable attendance; reliable transportation to the site.
  • General repair and mechanical skills, including carpentry, electrical, and plumbing; ability to use basic hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of tool and shop safety, OSHA regulations.
  • Basic computer skills, including internet, email, and the museum's service ticketing system.
  • Commitment to equity, access, and creating a welcoming environment for diverse staff and visitors. Ability to work well with people from various backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of good customer service principles.
  • Proficiency in English required; bilingual skills (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin) are a plus.
  • Problem-solving skills, initiative, and ability to troubleshoot in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Friendly, flexible, service-oriented, and good-humored.
  • Adherence to and enforcement of health and safety protocols.
