Department: Housing Dining & Conference Services (HDCS)-Facilities Maintenance

Appointment Type: Temporary: Position will begin May 1, 2025 and end on or before August 29, 2025, permanent status cannot be earned in this position.

Time Base: This is an hourly, intermittent position with an anticipated 40 hour work week.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm

Anticipated Hiring Range: $34.79-$36.20 per hour

Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Supervising Painter, the primary responsibility of the Painter is to perform a full range of skilled work in the painting, finishing, and maintaining of a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures.

Position Information:

  1. Prepares surfaces for painting and finishing.
  2. Applies undercoats and finish coats using various application methods including brush, roll, spray, and electro-static spray.
  3. Paints signs and parking lot and roadway markings.
  4. Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
  5. Estimates cost, time, and materials for painting projects, and inspects related work performed by contractors.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the painting trade including painting, finishing, drywall, and paperhanging; and knowledge of applicable state codes and regulations.

Abilities: Ability to apply paints and finishes neatly and accurately; mix paints and finishes and match colors; erect and work from scaffolds, rigging, and ladders; read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications; estimate cost, time, and materials; maintain records; and provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.

Experience: Normally acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience demonstrating achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard painter's apprenticeship program.

Preferred Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of refinishing wood floors with at least one-year journey-level experience. Ability to read/write English and perform arithmetic calculations at a level appropriate for the duties of the position.
