Peralta Community College District invites nominations and applications for a strategic, collaborative, and innovative leader to serve as the next Vice Chancellor for Human Resources (VCHR).
Founded in 1964, the Peralta Community College District (PCCD) is a collaborative community of colleges comprised of Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College in northern Alameda County. The Peralta Colleges provide a dynamic, multicultural learning environment offering accessible, high-quality educational programs and services, including two-year degrees, certificates, and university transfer programs, to approximately 30,000 students per year. PCCD actively collaborates with local businesses, industries, and community organizations to enhance educational opportunities and workforce development.
Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and monitoring the daily operations of the Peralta Community College District's comprehensive human resources management and employee relations programs for administrative, academic, and classified personnel; and providing technical assistance in the area of human resources to all District administrators, Governing Board, and staff. The Vice Chancellor for Human Resources has oversight responsibility for the human resources function at all four colleges within the Peralta Community College District, which includes a team of approximately 21 dedicated staff.
The Vice Chancellor is responsible for providing visionary executive leadership, driving strategic planning, prioritization, and impactful collaboration across all current and future human resource functions and initiatives. This includes interpreting, implementing, recommending, and developing human resources policies, regulations, and practices, as well as facilitating the development of other District policies and regulations.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join a dynamic community college district during a time of transformation as it builds upon its strengths to reimagine its future. With the arrival of Chancellor Tammeil Gilkerson in January of 2024, and ambitious efforts underway in delivering on the District 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, the community desires forward-thinking human resources leadership grounded in an authentic care for the community and compassion for employees at all levels.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal and professional commitment and ability to work collaboratively across all PCCD campuses, as well as the aptitude to build and maintain relationships with an emphasis on dynamic communication and partnership. The Vice Chancellor should be a thought leader capable of innovative and creative solutions and working strategically with the chancellor, administrative leadership, faculty, staff, and students.
The PCCD community seeks a Vice Chancellor who is committed to the mission of the District and who can build a healthy organizational culture and retain talent while demonstrating the courage to lead during times of transitions or make hard decisions in the best interest of the District. It will be imperative that the new leader have evidence of engaging others to cultivate a shared vision and effectively implementing and operationalizing the plans in ways that inspire others to assure its realization to deliver results on both long- and short-term goals for the District.
