has been retained to conduct a search for a Chief Financial Officer on behalf of our amazing client, The Tech Interactive, a mission driven organization that develops the next generation of problem-solvers locally, nationally, and globally through the creation and distribution of world-class immersive STEAM education resources!

We are looking for a people-centric financial executive to work in unison with the CEO in offering strategic, forward thinking, and visionary ideas towards the ongoing stability, growth, and future of The Tech Interactive. This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position located in San Jose, CA.

ABOUT THE TECH INTERACTIVE :

The Tech Interactive, also known as “The Tech” and formerly the Tech Museum of Innovation , is a world class science and technology center in the heart of Silicon Valley that believes everyone is born an innovator who can change the world for the better. Started in 1978 when the Junior League of Palo Alto and the Junior League of San Jose proposed a center for hands-on learning to showcase the incredible innovators in the region, the Tech remains committed to being a community resource that gives back to and draws power from the inspiring ecosystem it calls home.

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the management of all accounting and finance functions while holding fiscal responsibility for The Tech's annual operating budget. As a key member of the senior leadership team, this position provides analysis and recommendations regarding long- and short-term strategies as well as the day-to-day financial operations to meet the Tech's annual budget and strategic impact and sustainability goals. This position will oversee finance, accounting, IT, legal, grants compliance, risk management and the expansion into Park Habitat.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Develop, recommend, and implement financial strategies to support the institutions' short-term and long-range proposals, goals and strategic plans.
  2. Support the CEO's goals and visions with advice and strong financial strategies. Provide necessary reports and / or presentations to support recommendations and strategies.
  3. Analyze financial performance and maintain the annual budget through regular forecasting and corrections; provide budget updates and analysis to leadership and the Board.
  4. Establish and maintain internal controls, financial policies and procedures maintaining compliance with best practices and legal requirements.
  5. Manage endowment fund investments, short-term investments and monitor cash requirements.
  6. Supervise annual independent audits as well as other audit activities, coordinate issuance of certified annual financial statements.
  7. Serve as staff support to the Board of Trustees, particularly the Executive, Finance, Audit, and Investment Committees on fiduciary and financial matters.
  8. Oversee and support the negotiation of contracts and earned revenue streams, including tenant leases, government support, café, and store partnerships.
  9. Steward and maintain partnerships with entities such as the City of San Jose.
  10. Lead and manage the IT and technology team.
  11. Support the organization's goals and approach in providing a safe, inclusive, and equitable work environment, in alignment with the principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  12. Complete additional related tasks or duties as assigned by the CEO.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  1. MBA in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field is required. CPA licensure highly preferred.
  2. Notable years' experience effectively directing the financial functions of a complex organization with proven, successful results.
  3. Experience with creating policies and procedures based on financial best practices and legal requirements. Non-profit experience preferred.
  4. Experienced in the development of budgets and financial reports that are responsive to the needs of the President and the Board.
  5. Dynamic leader with the ability to positively interact with peers in a collaborative environment. Ability to embrace feedback and incorporate it into planning and strategies as appropriate.
  6. Proven experience in providing accurate analysis with the ability to translate information to both financial and non-financial professionals.
  7. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills across multiple mediums.
  8. Strong verbal and written presentation skills with proven experience presenting to all levels of staff, donors, and Board.
  9. Strong planning skills with the ability to provide solutions while remaining flexible and reacting positively to change.
  10. Experience with financial software with the ability to learn new programs.
  11. Experience with IT functions and software is desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS :
