Position Summary

The Youth and Sports Director will help achieve our vision by providing leadership and management of branch Youth Basketball Leagues (Jr. Hoopers, Winter League), and Camps (Summer, Holiday). The Director of Sports & Camp Programs will serve as the branch's ADA Champion and Safety Committee Chair. The Director of Sports & Camp Programs will be a leader on the Presidio YMCA leadership team and support community events. Additionally, this role will be active on YMCA of San Francisco service line teams for Youth Sports, Camp, and possibly others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Program Management & Operations
    • Plan and manage Youth Basketball Leagues and Camps, including staffing, communications, logistics, and customer service.
    • Deliver programming as needed and ensure staff schedules are properly managed.
    • Observe participants' activities and enforce safety regulations.
    • Respond swiftly to critical incidents and emergency situations.
    • Identify and remove barriers to inclusion, ensuring environments are welcoming and accessible.
  • Coach and develop staff, including hiring, training, evaluating, and mentoring.
  • Ensure staff certifications and training are up to date. Foster a strong sense of team and provide staff recognition and support.
  • Plan and conduct regular in-service training and continuing education workshops. Connect staff to the mission of the YMCA and the meaning of their work.
  • Create and manage the annual site/department operating budget.
  • Ensure excellent fiscal stewardship and program enrollment to meet budget.
  • Promote and market programming to maintain high program enrollment.
  • Complete all mandatory ADP LMS safety training and Y-USA e-Learning before the first shift.
  • Attend staff meetings and required training.
    • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
  • Community Engagement & Collaboration
    • Effectively collaborate and communicate with other departments.
    • Lead in a positive manner to support and strengthen relationships.
    • Engage in community campaigns and fundraising events.
    • Demonstrate YMCA's core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.
    • Exhibit leadership in advancing the mission and cause, building relationships, leading operations, and inspiring others.
  • Other Duties
    • Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age 21 years
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional and community experience required
  • 3 years of experience involving sports leagues, summer camps, youth development, recreation and leisure, and family activities, which can include developing, implementing and evaluating programs
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • YMCA approved CPR/First Aid certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with building and maintaining budgets.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • You must have visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • All employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationships over minors. Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment and will be submitted to the Association Office human resources department prior to beginning the first day of work.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. in order to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Position regularly requires the ability to do word processing, data entry and filing for several hours at a time. Position may require sitting, bending, leaning and kneeling on an occasional basis.

Salary Description

The salary for this position is $70,000 – $79,843 per year based on experience and qualifications and is aligned with current salary benchmarking standards. Compensation is contingent upon grant fund approval and program budget availability.
