About Women's Audio Mission: Women's Audio Mission (WAM) is a San Francisco-based nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women and gender-expansive individuals in music production and the recording arts. WAM uses music and media to attract women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals to music technology studies and careers. Founded in 2003, WAM serves school partners across three school districts and includes recording studios in San Francisco and an educational lab space in Oakland.

Compensation Range: $25 to $35 per hour*

*Years of experience and technical skills determine salary and placement in job level I, II, or III

Work Location: In-Person @ San Francisco Offices/Lab (447 Minna Street) and studios (544 Natoma Street) and partner schools across the Bay Area

Position Summary

This part-time entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on middle and high school students through music and audio education. Successful incumbents will have at least 3 years of hands-on teaching experience, a passion for audio, and a commitment to empowering young voices.

Primary Objectives and Responsibilities

  1. Deliver engaging Girls on the Mic classes to middle and high school students (ages 11-18) on a weekly basis.
  2. Facilitate in-person classes, with potential for virtual or hybrid sessions based on school district policies and needs.
  3. Travel between WAM's studios and office in San Francisco and partner school sites.
  4. Collaborate with the program team to maintain and enhance standardized curriculum, ensuring a dynamic learning experience.
  5. Attend mandatory weekly team meetings and organization-wide initiatives.
  6. Respond promptly to communications and contribute to a supportive team environment.
  7. Take on other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some college coursework in a relevant field is a plus.
  • Genuine interest in audio production, music, and empowering young voices through creative expression.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to connect with students effectively.
  • Willingness to adapt to different learning environments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, work, and travel between locations.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
  • Prolonged periods working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.
