Full-Stack Software Engineer, Control & Calibration, AWS Center for Quantum Computing
Job ID: 2925460 | Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc.
The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians, on a mission to develop a fault-tolerant quantum computer.
We are looking to hire a Full-Stack Software Engineer to join our growing software team. You will work closely with our experimental and theoretical physics teams to enable their work characterizing, calibrating, and operating novel quantum devices. The ideal candidate will be able to translate high-level science requirements into software implementations (e.g. Python APIs/frameworks, React components, database schemas) that are performant, scalable, and intuitive. This requires someone who (1) has a strong desire to work within a team of scientists and engineers, and (2) demonstrates ownership in initiating and driving projects to completion. This role has a particular emphasis on UI/UX development, for the purposes of visualizing experimental data collected from our devices.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop real-time dashboards that allow experimentalists to inspect the state of quantum device calibration.
- Design intuitive, scalable visualizations for understanding the performance of quantum computing systems.
- Collaborate with scientists to build user interfaces that accelerate their day-to-day experimental workflows.
- Profile and optimize the performance of the database API and infrastructure to enable faster page load times.
- Deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure that underpins the web services offered by our team.
- Empower others to actively contribute to the codebase through mentorship and documentation.
We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles, a bias for action, superior problem-solving, and excellent communication skills. Working effectively within a team environment is essential. As a software engineer embedded in a research organization, you will have the opportunity to work on new ideas and stay abreast of the field of experimental quantum computation.
A day in the lifeThe lifetime of your projects will likely begin with a lot of discussion and negotiation with our scientists and engineers to translate their software and hardware feature requests into design proposals that demonstrate sensible trade-offs between complexity and delivery. Once a design proposal has been accepted, you will implement it in a logical and maintainable manner. You will also be encouraged to take ownership over the stability and quality of the software and hardware stack by identifying, proposing, and implementing features that will accelerate our realization of quantum computing technologies.
About the teamYou will be joining the software team within the AWS Center of Quantum Computing. Our team is comprised of scientists and software engineers who are building scalable software that enables quantum computing technologies.
