Departmental Overview

Academic Planning, led by the Vice Provost, works on behalf of the Provost in the areas of academic space planning, global engagement and international affairs, academic program reviews, and new academic ventures and programs.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost and Chief of Staff of Academic Planning, and closely collaborating with a small team of academic space planners, this position involves the collection, updating, management, and reporting of space planning related data. This position is expected to operate as the space data expert for the Division of Academic Planning and for UC Berkeley. Additionally, this position will analyze and utilize the space data to collaborate in the strategic and long-range planning for the programming, design, and development of campus space, properties, and facilities, including buildings, infrastructure, and landscape projects; research, design and program guidelines; compliance with environmental planning regulations and architectural design review.

Responsibilities include analyzing, managing, and planning for the physical, environmental and security conditions of campus facilities, representing VPAP for future facility construction and build-outs, promoting campus principles for all building/space renovations, project development/management, space planning, move planning and coordination, occupancy planning, resource management, and the development of procedures, policies and communications related to infrastructure and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Academic Space Planner/Space Data Project Manager for campus-wide initiatives.
  • Oversees campus' academic planning software database system TRIRIGA.
  • Responsible for updating, maintaining, collecting, and reporting space data in accordance with UCOP Facility Inventory Guide (FIG).
  • Responsible for the coordination and collaboration with campus partners who provide updated space drawings/floor plans.
  • Conducts audits of campus spaces to confirm space data, dimensions, and uses.
  • Stays abreast of changing technologies related to space planning.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining an expert-level space data collection, maintenance, and reporting operations workflow.

Provides academic space planning services for the VPAP and campus.

  • Utilizing space data, serves as an academic space planner collaborating with team members and various campus entities.
  • Provides highly detailed space data and briefing materials to the VPAP, COS, and various collaborators and committees.
  • Plans and directs space improvement projects while partnering with key stakeholders.
  • Analyzes footprint of space and recommends alternatives to space configurations.
  • Collaborates in the ongoing development of space incentive programs.
  • Develops programs by collaborating with campus officials and building/department leadership.
  • Collaborates in the management of space activities.

Serves as liaison with campus and external agencies regarding space moves, construction activities, and renovation projects.

  • Tracks and monitors academic space requests.
  • Collaborates in the management of an operational process for space requests.
  • Develops and implements a departmental communication strategy.

May serve as Project Manager for small and medium sized space planning moves.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong data management skills; ability to expertly use a large space planning database system.
  • Thorough working knowledge/skill in city planning, architecture, or other planning-related fields.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong graphic communication and data visualization skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the campus, including its architectural history, long range development plans, infrastructure and current, on-going and proposed design and construction plans.

Salary & Benefits

This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for full UC Benefits.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $80,000.00 - $100,000.00.
