JOB TITLE: Education Director, Non-Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Visitacion Valley

REPORTS TO: Education Liaison

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Since 1891, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) has provided high-quality, community-based youth development services to youth in San Francisco and beyond. The Education Director has general responsibility for programs that support members' success in school and is directly responsible to the Education Liaison. The Coordinator shall plan, organize, direct and control the program and maintenance of programs related to homework completion, tutoring, and academic mentoring within the policies of the organization. The Coordinator shall assume accountability for the results in achieving the outlined goals and objectives of the Education Program.

This is an in-person, hands-on role, so prospective candidates should expect to be present at Clubs every day.

KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):

Education Department Duties – 75%

  1. Plan, organize and conduct educational programs, including tutoring, homework completion, and academic mentorship programs.
  2. Develop and implement outreach strategies to get new youth to participate in the education program - focusing on youth who need it most.
  3. Promote and stimulate membership in the department ensuring that every Club member participates in some Learning Center activities. Build a culture where all youth understand the importance of completing high school and developing a career path that strongly encourages college enrollment.
  4. Ensure homework completion programs are conducted at a high level. Provide coaching, resources and support as needed.
  5. Ensure youth who need it most are enrolled in on-site tutoring and academic mentorship programs.

Day to Day Duties – 25%

  1. Track member participation and progress in academic programs.
  2. Support the Education Liaison in maintaining academic portfolios for each core member of the Visitacion Valley Clubhouse that includes various sources of data indicative of members' academic progress. This includes report cards, youth surveys/interviews, work samples, reports from teachers/parents, etc.
  3. Attend all meetings, conferences and training as required, and assist with all Club-wide special events.
  4. At all times maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., youth development, social work, education).
  2. Experience working with youth in an academic or out of school time setting.
  3. Ability to develop and implement organized academic support programs and services.
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated organizational skills.
  6. Current Red Cross first aid/CPR certification (within 90 days of employment).

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:

  1. Minimum of 3 years of experience working in nonprofit organizations, schools, or youth development programs.
  2. Strong knowledge of youth development principles and best practices.
  3. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  4. Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to drive change and foster a culture of learning throughout the Club.
  5. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Ability to efficiently manage multiple program requirements and deadlines.
  7. Ability to work cross-functionally with program leaders, educators, and community partners.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  2. Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours.
  3. Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods.

Pay:

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependent on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid-level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate of the current range is $28-31 per hour.
