Description:

This candidate must be a U.S. citizen (U.S. born or naturalized) operating on U.S. Soil who does not hold dual citizenship and has the ability to meet customer and government screening standards applicable to this role, including a Criminal Justice Information Services screening with fingerprint scan. Due to the citizenship requirements for this role, which supports U.S. federal, state, and/or local government customers, citizenship will be verified through two of the following REAL ID Act documents: U.S. Passport, Passport Card, REAL Driver's License, Global Entry Card, U.S. Government CAC/PIV. Salesforce is looking for a Senior/Lead Database and Application Performance Engineer to join the Core Database Performance team.

This is not a DBA role as it does not provide database access. All tuning and optimization happens at the application/SQL layer.


Your Team

The Core Database Performance team is responsible for fueling customers' success by delivering high performance, high throughput database service and pushing the boundaries of scale while managing exponential growth in traffic and complexity. This team strives for innovating and automating troubleshooting techniques and interactive analytics, to enable tuning at scale, enhance proactive monitoring to prevent incidents, reduce cost to serve, and feed improvements and enhancements back to build a more efficient, resilient, and scalable platform.


What you'll be doing…

  1. You will be responsible for the performance and scale of Salesforce multitenant database.
  2. Monitor and respond to trends in Production workload performance before they become a problem.
  3. Partner with our Development teams to design and tune Salesforce products for optimal performance and scalability.
  4. Collaborate with our Operations Staff to triage and resolve Production performance issues.
  5. Monitor Database Performance and usage, optimizing both queries and the code that generates them.

Who you are

  1. 7+ years of solid hands-on experience in SQL Performance Tuning.
  2. Excel in collaboration and working as a team.
  3. Development and Maintenance of SQL, PL/SQL.
  4. Excellent working knowledge of SQL Trace, TKPROF, Statspack, and AWR reports.
  5. Experience troubleshooting locking issues, wait events, hang analysis and developing solutions to fix them.
  6. Experience in identifying bottlenecks for scalability and performance.
  7. Experience with Database Cluster/Multi-tenant/cloud Architecture (RAC, Grid Infrastructure).
  8. Experience with PostgreSQL Performance Tuning is a plus.
