Position Summary

Under the direction of the Teens Programs Director, the Teens Program Leader is responsible for developing and facilitating enrichment programs, providing academic support to program participants, and strengthening the program's connection with students, families, and community partners.

As a team player, the Teens Program Leader will build and maintain strong and productive relationships with students, school staff, parents, the YMCA, and members of the Mission and Excelsior communities. They should be adept at working in a fast-paced environment with teens. In their role, the Teens Program Leader will work from the Mission YMCA branch and lead participants on off-site field trips every 3rd Saturday of the month.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Plan and implement activities that celebrate participants' strengths, cultural diversity, and interests.
  2. Maintain a safe environment by observing participants, enforcing safety protocols, and responding effectively to emergencies.
  3. Follow YMCA of San Francisco's child safety standards in all program delivery and facilitation.
  4. Apply Out-of-School Time best practices to ensure consistent, high-quality programming.
  5. Serve as a role model by fostering a positive and respectful atmosphere for participants, staff, and volunteers.
  6. Maintain accurate program records, including attendance, incident reports, and emergency documentation.
  7. Communicate clearly and respectfully with participants, families, staff, and volunteers.
  8. Collaborate with families, participants, and staff to plan youth activities that align with program goals.
  9. Ensure all programs comply with YMCA safety and security guidelines, and policies outlined in the YMCA of Greater San Francisco Child Care Staff Manual.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

Work primarily takes place at the Mission YMCA branch with periodic off-site field trips, mainly on Saturdays.

The role requires the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, stand or move for extended periods, actively engage in programming, and occasionally lift supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds.

Salary Description

The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 - $22.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with salary benchmarks for similar roles. Compensation is in accordance with grant funding approval and program budget requirements.

Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school-aged youth in diverse settings.
  • Understanding youth development principles and best practices.
  • Experience facilitating engaging activities and building meaningful relationships with youth.
  • Ability to plan creative, hands-on projects that inspire teens.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher in Child & Adolescent Development, Education, or a related field.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, or other languages.
  • Experience or interest in arts, dance, drama, sports, or other enrichment areas.
  • Familiarity with the Mission and/or Excelsior communities is helpful but not required.
