Job Description
Position Overview
La Scuola International seeks an Elementary Teaching Assistant to work closely with assigned homeroom teachers to support the goals of the class, as well as individual students in their social, emotional and academic growth. Applicants should be able to teach an inquiry-based curriculum, be collaborative, proactive and flexible. Solutions-oriented thinkers, strong communicators and curious learners will thrive in La Scuola's diverse and dynamic environment.
The teacher will support and implement the daily program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the School under the supervision and direction of the Division Director and the Head of School.
Primary Responsibilities
- Participate in classroom instruction as needed working one-on-one, in pairs, or in small groups with student;
- Participate in collaborative planning, setting educational and developmental goals for students;
- Prepare the environment (indoor and outdoor) thoughtfully every day so that it supports those objectives;
- Carry out classroom tasks, long term projects and daily curriculum that support the school and the child supporting students to build skills through inquiry, observation, and experimentation;
- Work with a team to assess and document the group dynamic, as well as individual developmental progress toward group and individual goals is required;
- Support children's social and emotional growth;
- Participate in parent-teacher communication and conferences as needed;
- Spend quality time with students to foster their intellectual, academic, social, emotional, and physical development through the duties outlined above;
- Assist in maintaining a safe and educational environment for children at all times;
- Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety in the classroom, on the playground, and on field trips and moving between campus buildings;
- Participate in lunch, specialist or recess duties as requested by the school;
- Support effective communication with staff and parents; contribute to a weekly bulletin (Momenti) describing classroom activities is required for all classes. The weekly bulletin will also explain why the described activities are chosen and what children are learning through them;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or higher in Education (or equivalent area of study) and / or California Teaching Credential;
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in an elementary classroom setting;
- Bilingual and bi-literate in Italian and English with native or near-native Italian proficiency.
Required Skills- Maintain a deep respect and understanding for teaching and learning;
- Identify creative solutions for a variety of learning profiles;
- Knowledge of the Reggio Emilia approach, International Baccalaureate framework and Language Immersion is a plus;

- Ability to be open-minded, creative and curious, learning in relationship with colleagues and students alike; outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;

Additional InformationSalary Range: $30 - $35 per hour, commensurate with experience and credentials.

Additional InformationCandidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. Prior to beginning work and as a condition of employment in order to comply with the law, all employees must provide documentation to prove eligibility to work in the United States.
Final candidates will need to pass both Criminal Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance and a physical exam, and provide a recent copy of a negative TB test and other immunization records.
