Principal Responsibility

The Operations (OPS) team manages and enhances the overall safety and cleanliness for St. Anthony's. As a member of this team, you will supervise the daily maintenance of St. Anthony's buildings and equipment. In the spirit of our Franciscan values and heritage, our team provides compassion and care daily. As a steward of healing and social justice, you are expected to meet the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Staff Performance and Development

  • Supervise daily work flow of Maintenance Crew, hold staff accountable for tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines.
  • Review maintenance work requests daily and make assignments to the maintenance crew for completion. Provide training and instruction is needed.
Building and Facilities Maintenance
  • Knowledgeable of and always implements established safety procedures as prescribed by OSHA. Follow and implement all other required safety requirements.
  • Implement preventative maintenance plan by assessing building needs, which includes regular periodic visual inspections of all facility systems and equipment, elevator, boiler, generator, HVAC, refrigeration, fire alarm systems and all functioning machinery.
  • Inspect facilities daily to maintain proper condition includes gardens and parking lots where applicable.
  • Responsible for the proper recycling of paper, cans, and bottles. Work closely with SAF staff to ensure that recycling company receives proper materials.
  • Conduct building repairs with maintenance crew. Repair work will include light construction, plumbing plastering, furniture, hardware replacement, changing locks, electrical, etc.
  • Inform Building and Project Manager of repairs required and supplies or purchases needed. Responsible for identifying vendors or contractors to complete work as needed.
  • Accompanies and monitors vendors during equipment service or repair, ensuring work is performed up to standard and efficiently.
  • Responsible for keeping the maintenance shop orderly and organized, maintains inventory.
  • Assist Buildings and Special Projects Manager with emergency janitorial duties and other emergencies in all facilities. Must be on call biweekly.
Program Administration and Operations
  • Complete reports and all other paperwork neatly, legibly, and thoroughly.
  • Enter data and information electronically as required. Look up data and reports electronically through a database as requested.
  • Understand and follow the organization's programs, policies, and procedures
  • Participate in regular training and development opportunities to increase personal capacity to apply innovative approaches to daily workflows, service delivery, and employee engagement.
  • Report general facility issues immediately as they come up.
  • Work in coordination with the Buildings & Project Manager with planning and scheduling for Work Unit janitorial needs.
  • Work with Buildings and Project Manager to develop procedures and methods that improve the quality of services by using new technologies, products or equipment.
  • Maintain custodial supply inventory and place orders for 121 and 150 Golden Gate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 or more years' of comprehensive maintenance experience covering a wide variety of maintenance knowledge.
  • Minimum of 2 years' demonstrated supervisory experience and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, OSHA compliance regulations, safety procedures, including hazardous communications, lock out/tag out, electrical safety and general OSHA standards.
  • Must have and maintain a valid California driver's license, have an excellent driving record.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to be polite, diplomatic, and firm. Can set limits and practice professional boundaries with guests, volunteers, donors, and coworkers.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and high-pressure situations in a self-composed and self-assured manner.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours and days (weekends and holidays required).
  • Must be available to be on call, bi-weekly, after hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to complete paperwork neatly and legibly.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to use information and communication technologies (computers, smartphones, and iPads) to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information.
  • Ability to be punctual, reliable, cooperative, and stay team-oriented.
  • Experience working in a non-profit or community-based social service agency with people experiencing homelessness or poverty desired.
  • Commitment to St. Anthony Foundation Statement of Values and a desire to work for a social services agency serving the poor.
