Job Summary

Note: This is a contract position with a current end date of January 31, 2026, with possibility of extension. This position offers full benefits (medical, dental, vision, including retirement & pension eligibility). This position is located at the California Department of Public Health Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Branch (STDCB) in Richmond, CA. The deadline to apply for this position is Friday, October 25.

This position is assigned to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Control Branch, and is under the direction of the Disease Intervention Section (DIS) Chief. Training and Outbreak Response Coordinator serves as the Sexually Transmitted Disease-Human Immunodeficiency Virus (STD-HIV) Disease Intervention Section (DIS) Training/Outbreak Response Coordinator and provides training and technical assistance to local health jurisdictions (LHJs) to build their capacity in planning, implementing, and evaluating STD/HIV DIS activities. In collaboration with the STD Control Branch's (STDCB) epidemiologic and clinical staff, this position is also responsible for providing technical assistance in outbreak identification, investigation, and containment strategies. This position will provide responsive, high-quality services to LHJs, representatives of outside agencies, and members of the public by providing accurate, complete, and up-to-date information in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner. This position will also work collaboratively with managers and staff within the STDCB, Office of Aids (OA), as well as external stakeholders to support outbreak response needs, develop tools, and write reports that contribute to data-driven STD-HIV response.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $78,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Control Branch is part of the Division of Communicable Disease Control, within the Center for Infectious Diseases, of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The CDPH is dedicated to protecting and optimizing the health and well-being of California's diverse people and communities.

The mission of CDPH's STD Control Branch is to reduce the transmission and impact of sexually transmitted infections (STI), mpox and viral hepatitis in California, particularly among communities disproportionately affected by these infections. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum of 3 years directly related experience
  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes
  • Working skills in training, teaching, presenting public health concepts related to disease intervention
  • Critical thinking ability, problem-solving skills, and demonstrate flexibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a public health agency or working on health research
  • Working skills in data collection, data management, database design and data security measures.
  • Strong policy analysis techniques
  • Health care background with experience interacting with patients, including interviewing about sensitive health topics, such as STDs
