Positions in this class are found in investigative, administrative, and supervision units in the Probation Department. Incumbents are assigned tasks of a well-defined and limited nature. Their work is subject to detailed and frequent review, which lessens as they become more experienced.
This class is distinguished from the Deputy Probation Officer I classification in that Deputy Probation Officers are sworn peace officers and are required to carry out the duties of a peace officer; may be responsible for providing administrative oversight of cases assigned to alternative caseloads, such as banked caseloads and remote reporting; while such oversight entails paper monitoring, there may be incidental direct contact.
