Nature programs include but are not limited to Nature Engagement Afterschool Programming, Community Garden coordination at sites and implementing Y Rangers programming. The Outdoor Programs Coordinator will oversee programs for youth and families under the Outdoor Equity Program (OEP) Grant in both Bayview/Hunters Point and Chinatown neighborhoods. The Outdoor Programs Coordinator will provide direct service to participants in Bayview/Hunters Point and families in Chinatown. The Outdoor Equity Program (OEP) is intended to get marginalized groups (specifically Bayview/Hunters Point & Chinatown neighborhoods) into outdoor spaces through intentional environmental education climate justice curriculum.Other duties include maintaining and supporting program administration such as collecting attendance and narratives; developing and maintaining quality programming; providing supervision and development of program staff and volunteers; planning, organizing, leading, and supervising outdoor participants. All programs must be administered in a manner consistent with YMCA & OEP goals and policies.The Outdoor Programs Coordinator will be responsible for Presidio's national Y-USA/NPS Partnership (Y Rangers) and will serve as a liaison between the Presidio YMCA, participating YMCA branches and program participants. Additionally, the Program Coordinator is the primary point of contact for all partners in the NPS/Y Rangers programming, including city, state, and non-profit organizations that are partners of the Y Rangers program offering.Hours may vary slightly in accordance with the SFUSD calendar, program needs and the needs of the Outdoor Program Director.Minimum Qualifications 21+ years oldA minimum of 12 units of education, natural sciences, recreation or related field.Knowledge in at least some of the following areas: general ecological concepts, natural and cultural history, geology, team-building, storytelling, gardening, social and environmental health.Must be flexible to accommodate varied schedule for programs.Must have access to reliable transportation.Experience with providing instructions to large groups2+ years of experience in youth work and knowledge of a variety of behavior management techniques preferred.Ability to organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.Recent supervisory experienceExperience in risk management and emergency responseExperience in fiscal program managementStrong organizational skills and the ability to manage complex logisticsStrong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skillsProficiency with MS Office and computersA passion for social justice and knowledge of the challenges faced by low-income San Francisco residentsProven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio-economic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgroundsMust be an independent worker and able to multi-task, adept at working on a team, and maintains a flexible and positive attitudeVisual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situationAbility to adequately observe participants in activities, enforces safety regulations, and apply appropriate management techniquesYMCA approved CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire dateTB test clearance requiredPreferred Qualifications Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification (training provided if necessary)Knowledge, familiarity, and experience working in or with schools within SFUSDBilingual language skills in Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, and/or ArabicAll employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationship over minors.
