SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Kitchen Assistant's responsibilities include maintenance of the overall cleanliness, safety, and sanitation of kitchen and food-storage facilities, working closely with and providing support to the Cooks and the Kitchen Manager. Successful candidates must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, including reaching, bending, kneeling, and stooping within the daily routine of tasks and activities. The successful candidate will possess a willingness to learn a range of kitchen operations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Kitchen Assistant's priority will be to support efficient meal service operations by bussing and washing dishes during service (ranging in size and weight from small plastic cups to large stock pots). Duties also include cleaning floor mats, sweeping and mopping kitchen and dining areas, organizing large and small kitchen equipment, and cleaning appliances. In cooperation with the Cooks and volunteers, the Assistant will be responsible for setting and clearing the dining area and tables as well as overall maintenance of these areas. In cooperation with the Cooks, the Assistant will ensure trash is removed and placed in appropriate outside dumpsters. S/he may also receive and stock large deliveries as necessary; and assist in the preparation of holiday meals and food for special events. The Assistant must attend all meetings and perform all tasks as assigned by Kitchen Manager.

Qualifications

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/DEGREES REQUIRED:

High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. One to two years of dishwashing and/or bussing experience required. An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in institutional food services, organizational skills, proper food handling, working with kitchen equipment and utensils, and ServSafe or DPH Food Safety and Sanitation Certification are all strongly preferred. Experience working with client and community volunteers is a plus. Familiarity with human services agencies, including those that work with homeless, mentally ill, or substance abuse populations will also be a plus.

Must secure finger image screening, annual TB screening, and be fully vaccinated showing proof of COVID vaccination and boosters.
