Program Overview:

WestEd's Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) program is committed to increasing science, technology, engineering, & mathematics literacy among our nation's youth. The program offers services, materials, and strategies that support teachers' professional growth in content knowledge, effective teaching practices, appropriate assessment, and evaluation.

**Position Overview:**

WestEd is seeking to hire classroom observers to work in schools , conducting observations in preschool classrooms. The observations are part of a large, multi-state early intervention project aiming to enhance school readiness of low-income children. This position offers a great opportunity to gain valuable research observation skills and experience in early childhood classroom settings.

Successful applicants will be paid for their training, as well as for time conducting classroom observations. Training and certification on the observation instrument will be provided in January. This is a temporary position but it can be renewed with each observation period as the project continues. This is a part-time position. Successful applicants can expect to work between 12-20 hours per week during the time period that observations are being conducted. We anticipate the observation period to begin in mid-January and conclude in late February.

**Qualifications:**

* B.A. or higher in Psychology, Child Development, Education, or closely related field.

* Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

* The ability to learn quickly, with close attention to detail.

* Prior experience working in preschool or early elementary school classrooms is highly desired.

* Must be able to work at least 4 consecutive hours, at least 3 mornings per week during the observation period.

* Valid driver's license, insurance, and access to a personal vehicle for transportation to the school sites.

* Proof of negative TB test will be required upon hire.

* Ability to pass a criminal background check.
